Oasis Homes · At home
A child’s day
starts at home.
A child who sleeps on the floor or goes to bed hungry cannot do well at school. With the local street and village leaders, we visit the homes where the children we support live, and provide what is missing: a bed, a mattress, bedding and food.
Any amount
Gifts with no programme chosen help fund beds, mattresses and food for the families we visit.
Give to Oasis HomesWhy it matters
What holds children back
- Several children sharing one mattress, or sleeping on the floor.
- Too little food at home, especially before the harvest.
- Families caring for children of relatives with no extra income.
What it pays for
- Beds and mattresses
- Blankets, sheets and mosquito nets
- Food: maize flour, rice, beans and cooking oil
- Follow-up visits to see how the family is doing
How it works
Careful, local and recorded.
Visits with local leaders
Homes are visited together with the street or village chairperson and, where needed, the ward social welfare officer, who know the families best.
What each home needs
We ask before we bring anything. Each family receives what they actually need, recorded on a simple form.
Delivered, not cash
Beds, mattresses and food are bought locally and delivered to the home. No cash is handed out.
Dignity first
We never photograph families or homes without their consent, and never publish their names or where they live.
What we look for
What success looks like
- Every child we support has a bed and a mattress
- Families visited again after each delivery
- Every delivery recorded and signed for
Questions
How do you choose which homes to visit?
Mostly they are the homes of children in our school programmes, together with families the local leaders and social welfare officer identify as most in need.
Can I fund a home visit?
Yes. Choose “Your choice” on the Give page and add Oasis Homes, or contact us to fund the beds, mattresses or food for a family.
